Patricia Vener creates fantastic beaded statement pieces rooted in both formal and theoretical practices. Truly wearable art, each beaded work transforms from moment to moment depending on movement, light, surrounding colors, textures, and any other variable present at the time. Patricia aims to "invoke in her audience a visceral emotional response to art works which can be worn and therefore viewed in a changeable context" which is quite unique of jewelry pieces in this era of mass-produced fashion.
The Bird Nest currently has three of Patricia's woven bead necklaces including Key Lime (2004), pictured below.
Each piece comes with a Certificate of Authenticity which includes a photo, care instructions, and a playful quote. Patricia spends many hours perfecting her craft and creating unique pieces. She has a very impressive website which features finished pieces available for purchase, information about commissions, and even tutorials for people who want to learn her craft. Patricia's wearable art is truly magnificent. Pictured below is a very intricate piece called Dances With Trees from 2014. Her website can be found here.
Patricia even offers a unique type of commission that allows the client to bring in a piece of broken jewelry that she will bring back to life as a new piece. This offers a way to preserve the sentimental value of an heirloom while bringing it back into the world as a wearable artwork. An example of a brooch restored to a new piece is pictured below.
As eloquently written on her website, Patricia believes "that art, like love, is meant to be shared. The more you share, the more we can make the world a better place than we found it. It is a nourishment that can raise awareness of an injustice or evoke an emotion as simple as awe or as complex as curiousity. The more beauty, the less room for cruelty, injustice, and hate."
Patricia Vener's art jewelry is completely one-of-a-kind and focuses on the motion of real life. Though intricate, each piece is meant to be worn and enjoyed by all.
