Artist Spotlight: Peggy Russell
Peggy Russell is a jewelry designer native to the Guilford area. She works primarily in beading, pearls, and wire weaving but also experiments in resin, polymer clay, and found objects. Each piece of jewelry is unique and she rarely re-creates the same piece twice. She does, however, do custom commissions for special events such as weddings and proms including those with multiple pieces in the same style.
Peggy uses various jewelry-making techniques including weaving of various materials including leather, wire, and beaded strands. She is constantly discovering new ways to incorporate resin, polymer clay, and found objects into her unique pieces.
Some of her most interesting and popular pieces are those using a Viking knit wire technique as pictured above. This is a centuries-old technique where the artist uses a single piece of wire to form a three dimensional knit.
Peggy uses all kinds of beads including freshwater pearls, lampwork, and stones. She also enjoys creating pendants from items she makes or finds including the beautiful agate pendant pictured below.
Peggy is always looking for new inspiration in her everyday life and continues to experiment with various techniques. In the past, she has made custom matching sets for wedding parties, proms, graduations, and other special events. She welcomes any custom ideas you may have and also does jewelry repair and bead re-stringing. Check out her website for more information.
